MSC FAITH, a container ship owned by MSC ran aground near Batam Island

On the evening of Jan 31, MSC FAITH, a container ship owned by MSC, ran aground in waters off Batam after leaving Singapore. As of now, the ship is still at anchor. There were no injuries and 24 crew members were scheduled to be evacuated from the ship, according to the report. Indonesian maritime force officials said work was under way to help the boat to shallow.

MSC FAITH, which is 1,200 feet long and has a capacity of 14,336teU, departed Singapore late on Jan 31, bound for Yantian Port in China. However, near Batam, the container ship ran aground in waters eight metres deep, with a draft of 12 metres. A preliminary investigation showed no oil leak in the water, and the crew reported safety. Local authorities reported that an underwater survey had been ordered to examine the hull and determine the extent of the situation.

The ship IMO 9842085, with a deadweight ton of 149,831 and a capacity of 14,272teU, was built in 2019 and is flying the Liberian flag. At the time of the incident, the ship was serving MSC Asian-Mediterranean route TIGER Service FT252E, with a common cargo line consisting of MSC, ALIANCA and HAMBURG SUD.
